Borrowing Material

Who can check out material

    • HACC Users - HACC students, faculty, staff, trustees and emeriti use their HACC ID as their library card.
    • Alumni Users - All HACC graduates who have paid the membership fee to the HACC Alumni Association.
    • ACLCP and PCCLC Users - Members of ACLCP (Associated College Libraries of Central PA) and PCCLC (Pennsylvania Community College Library Consortium) must present a valid college ID to borrow material. List of PA Community Colleges
    • Students who attend high school in one of the 22 supporting school districts of the Harrisburg Campus may borrow books with permission from their high school librarian.  These high school students will work with their high school librarian to check out books from the Harrisburg Campus Library.
    • Community Users - may use the computers and library materials in the library, but cannot checkout material.

Item Limits

    • Students = up to 25 books; 2 reserves at a time.
    • ACLCP/Alumni = 5 books.
    • Staff = up to 99 items.

Loan Periods

    • Books from the general collection – Students/Alumni = 2 weeks; Staff = semester loan. Renewals are permitted except if the books have been requested by another patron.
    • Leisure Reading material is a 2 week checkout for everyone
    • Reserve items = In Library, 1 day, 3 day or 7 day  (determined by the instructor teaching the course)
    • Reference materials and Periodicals are not available for checkout.

Laptops

Each HACC Campus Library has laptops available for student use. There are In-Library use and out of library use laptops. Availability and checkout periods vary by campus.

AV materials

The HACC library AV collections are available for viewing in the campus libraries by students. Students should contact your closest campus library staff to ask to view AV material.

Staff may book AV material using the Booking Media (Staff only) link. An item can be booked using the “Book It” button on the full record in the catalog.

    • Select “Book It” under the title of the item you want
    • Enter your MyHACC username & password
    • Choose the pickup and return dates using the calendar gadget
    • Select the library where you will pick up the item
    • Click on “Book Item”
    • The library staff will notify you when the item arrives

Note: Any student who lives more 25 miles from the nearest HACC campus may request to have books sent to them by contacting Library Technical Sevices (library@hacc.edu or 717-780-2543).  The HACC Library will send the item directly to the student. Please note that the student will be responsible for returning the item back to the HACC Library in a timely manner to avoid the regular overdue fees.

Renew Material

Renewing materials

Yes, materials may be renewed online by visiting the online catalog. Click on the “My Library Account” at the top right side.

Just login using your my|HACC username and password, then click on the "Checkouts" tab, then click on each box next to each item you want to renew. Then click on “Renew Selected Items.” Make sure a new date due is displayed for each item you are renewing. If an item does not renew, please call your campus library. Items may not renew if one of the following conditions exists:

  • Any items are overdue.
  • The item has been renewed too many times.
  • Someone has placed a hold on the item.

**Interlibrary loan books cannot be renewed through the catalog. Interlibrary loan books are checked out for a three week period, unless the owning library gives a shorter loan period. A request for interlibrary loan renewal must be made by talking your local campus library staff or to the interlibrary loan staff person at 717-780-2551.

Renewals/Holds for Emeriti, Alumni & High School Borrowers -- If you are not a current HACC student or employee, use this link to renew material. Use your Library ID and 6-digit birth date (MMDDYY).

 

Find Reserve Material

Material on reserve

The libraries’ reserve collection includes books, journal articles, videos and other material selected by instructors for use in specific courses. The loan period for these items varies but is generally in library use.
Physical reserves items are located at the circulation desk at your campus library. You must have your HACC ID and know the course name and the instructor’s name to access reserve material.

Reserve materials are listed in the online catalog.


Electronic reserves

Electronic Reserves are accessed through the Springshare E-Reserves system.

  • Locate your class reserves by searching by instructor, department, course number, or course name
  • Click on the name of your class and section (if applicable)
  • You will be asked to enter the class password, which should be provided by your course instructor

Fines/Fees

Fines or fees

  • Fines: Reserves/computers/Equipment/ILL’s = $2 / day.  Image result for dollar icons
  • Damage = assessed according to extent of damage.
  • Lost items: Regular collection = replacement fee $70 + $10 non-refundable processing fee. Inter-library loans = replacement fee $100 + $10 non-refundable processing fee. Reserves = $50 + $10 non-refundable processing fee. Media = cost of replacement + $10 non-refundable processing fee. All fines and fees are paid at the Welcome Center cashier or via HACCWeb.
    • Fines and bills for lost or unreturned items will be entered on the student’s financial record.
    • A library user with overdue material cannot borrow materials.
    • Holds will be placed on HACC student's accounts who have material overdue by 21 days.At the end of the each semester, all HACC students will have a hold placed on their HACC account for any material not returned by the last day of finals.
    • HACC students will be billed for materials not returned at the end of the semester. However. if returned, the only cost will be the $10.00 non-refundable processing fee per item.
