Why tutoring?

  • It’s FREE!
  • It’s easy! Just walk-in when a tutor is scheduled.  No appointments needed.
  • It helps! Trained tutors know how to help you succeed.
  • It works! Tutoring is positively correlated with higher grades and greater persistence to graduation. Topping, K (2008). Peer-assisted learning: A practical guide for teachers. Newton, MA: Brookline Books.
  • It’s on demand! We have video workshops that can be found on HACC’s YouTube Channel
  • It’s online! Stop in Tutoring (Main 232) to learn how to access Smarthinking, an online tutoring service available 24 hours/day for many subjects.

To maximize your tutoring session, be sure to:

  • Bring all necessary class items (textbook, assignment, calculator, notes, handouts, flash drive, and your own work).
  • Know your HACC ID: you will need it to sign in and out of the learning center.
  • Come a few days before the assignment is due. Tutors are good, but they cannot work miracles.
  • Come prepared:
    • Complete the assignment to the best of your ability before meeting with the tutor.
    • Write down specific questions to ask during the tutoring session.
  • Be an active participant throughout the tutoring session: take notes and ask questions.
  • Take advantage of resources, like podcasts through
