FS100: College Success

FS102: Introduction to the College Experience

What specific OER are you currently using?

FS 100 College Success; FS 102 Introduction to the College Experience

Why did you decide to make the switch to OER?

Texts were created by FS instructors and free for students

How are you using OER in your classroom?

We have developed powerpoints and use the text for quizzes and exams

Where there any challenges to using OER, as compared to traditionally published materials?

No-it actually made things much easier as students have access on the first day of class.

What is your students’ feedback on the OER you have used?

I have only received positive feedback. Students appreciate that it is free and they can print parts of the PDF version at home if needed.

What differences have you noticed in student learning, grades, or engagement when you used OER?

Access to the textbook on the first day of class has most likely helped students with the first exam or initial quizzes.

What advice do you have for colleagues who are interested in implementing OER in their teaching?

Do it- it makes your text free for students and you can put together a text with everything you need for your specific course (rather than using a text that may have chapters that you do not even cover).
