Recruitment

You may already have an idea of how to advertise your intervention and recruit members, but a targeted search can provide you with additional ideas and strategies that have worked. Here are some search tips and keywords to add to your search for finding information about recruitment specific to your group:

  • try words like "recruitment" "marketing strategy" or awareness
  • adding the specific population can be helpful
  • Try phrases like digital campaign, community outreach, or networking
  • try searching for toolkits, guides, or resources

If a source is credible, you will see...

data and charts

Complex Visuals

Instead of colorful images, you may see charts, equations, and tables of data.

Source Attribution

You will see quotes with a full and proper citation.

Author Credentials

The author likely works for a university and/or has several degrees as indicated by letters after their name.

length

Long Articles

They are long, and usually around 10 pages or more.

Jargon

The language is scientific and academic, not the kind of things you would say in normal conversation.

404: Page not Found

Wayback Machine

Stuff on the internet moves ALL. THE. TIME. When you get a message that indicates that a page is unavailable or not found, there's a pretty good chance that the Internet Archive has a copy! Simply copy URL (web address) where the page is supposed to be and paste it into the Wayback Machine. If they have a snapshot of the page, they will show you a calendar of dates and times that then took the snapshot. Work back from the most recent date available. Keep in mind that an interactive page may no longer function, but PDFs and other static information is usually usable.
