According to HACC's SGP 506 Academic Dishonesty the definition of plagiarism is "the offering of someone else’s work, words, or idea as one’s own or using material from another source without acknowledgement". Your instructor placed a statement about "Academic Dishonesty" in their syllabus that outlines the consequences of academic dishonesty such as plagiarism, cheating, or interference. 

With both MLA and APA citation styles, you will place a properly formatted citation in two places:

• On a new page included at the end of your paper. This page has a complete citation for each source you used, and they are arranged alphabetically by the first letter of the citation. This page is titled either Works Cited (MLA) or References (APA).
• Within the text of paper, inside of parentheses after the information you used from the source. These are called parenthetical or in-text citations. The information in the parentheses points to the complete list of references at the end of your paper.
