Mental Health

At MHALC, we are dedicated to helping individuals lead mentally healthy lives. We believe that to achieve optimal health we must make a commitment to care for mind, body, and spirit. Often, we take care of our physical needs by eating well or exercising, and connect with a presence larger than ourselves to attend to our spirit’s needs. Yet, when it comes to taking care of our mind, we often dismiss its’ importance. When we ignore our mental health, we overlook the very part of us that helps us to know and achieve our best selves.

NAMI Keystone Pennsylvania is a 501(c)(3) grassroots nonprofit organization certified by the Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations (PANO). It is home to several programs in the Southwest region, including the Consumer Action Response Team (CART) of Allegheny County, the Consumer and Family Satisfaction Team of Armstrong and Indiana Counties, and the Adult Advocacy Program in Allegheny County.

ADAA is the only multidisciplinary professional organization in mental health that engages the world’s leading experts who focus on anxiety, depressive, obsessive-compulsive, and trauma-related disorders. ADAA members are psychiatrists, psychologists, neuroscientists, researchers, nurses, social workers, therapists and more.

CHADD is composed of dedicated volunteers from around the country who play an integral part in the association’s success by providing support, education and encouragement to parents, educators and professionals on a grassroots level through CHADD chapters. Along with its growth in membership and reputation, CHADD has retained the passion and commitment of its founders.

ANAD is the oldest organization aimed at fighting eating disorders in the United States. ANAD assists people struggling with eating disorders and also provides resources for families, schools and the eating disorder community.

The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) is one of the 27 institutes and centers that comprise the National Institutes of Health (NIH). NIAAA supports and conducts research on the impact of alcohol use on human health and well-being. It is the largest funder of alcohol research in the world.

The American Psychiatric Association is an organization of psychiatrists working together to ensure humane care and effective treatment for all persons with mental illness, including substance use disorders. It is the voice and conscience of modern psychiatry. Its vision is a society that has available, accessible quality psychiatric diagnosis and treatment.

The American Psychological Association was founded in 1892 with 31 members and grew quickly after World War II.Today, APA has more than 115,700 members and 54 divisions in subfields of psychology. We aspire to excel as a valuable, effective and influential organization advancing psychology as a science.

Mental Health America (MHA) – founded in 1909 – is the nation's leading community-based nonprofit dedicated to addressing the needs of those living with mental illness and to promoting the overall mental health of all Americans.

The Mental Health Liaison Group (MHLG) is a coalition of national organizations representing consumers, family members, mental health and addiction providers, advocates, payers and other stakeholders committed to strengthening Americans’ access to mental health and addiction care. As trusted leaders in the field, our 60+ member organizations are dedicated to elevating the national conversation around mental health and addiction. Together, we work to advance federal policies that support prevention, early intervention, treatment and recovery services and supports.

NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.

The National Association for Rural Mental Health (NARMH) is a professional organization that serves the field of rural behavioral health. NARMH's membership includes the entire spectrum of the rural mental health community, including consumers, family members, practitioners, administrators, educators, researchers, and policy makers. A unifying force for NARMH has been a focus on rural concerns, which includes a commitment to rural people and those that serve them. This belief that rural comes first has allowed NARMH to concentrate its efforts to improve access, availability, acceptability of behavioral health and substance abuse services and research in rural and frontier areas.

The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) is the lead federal agency for research on mental disorders. NIMH is one of the 27 Institutes and Centers that make up the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the largest biomedical research agency in the world. NIH is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

Good mental health is related to mental and psychological well-being. WHO’s work to improve the mental health of individuals and society at large includes the promotion of mental well-being, the prevention of mental disorders, the protection of human rights and the care of people affected by mental disorders.
