BIOL 103--Humans and the Environment--Fioravanti

Guide for the book report assignment in Fioravanti's BIOL 103, and others.

Citing a Book in APA

For this assignment, you will need to cite your book in APA style.  A citation gives the reader the information that they need to locate the source that you used.  The citation for a book includes the following elements:

  • Author's name--write out the last name, and put the first and middle initials (if available).
  • Year of publication
  • Book title
  • Publisher
  • URL (if it is an eBook)

Here's how it looks:

Wallace-Wells, D.  (2019).  The uninhabitable earth : life after warming.  Tim Duggan Books.

Becker, W. S.  (2021) The Creeks Will Rise.  Chicago Review Press.  https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=nlebk&AN=3038090&site=ehost-live&scope=site

When you quote or use a piece of information from the book in your paper, you will need to include an in-text citation (also known as a parenthetical citation).  This helps the reader find the particular place in your source where that quote or information is located.

For APA style, your in-text citation includes the author's last name, year of publication, and page number.  Here's how it looks:

"...quote in the source's exact words" (Wallace-Wells, 2019, p. 47).

...stuff the source said, in your own words (Becker, 2021, p. 106).

For more details on how to cite sources, or if you need citations for sources other than your book, please see the Library's full guide, APA Citations (7th Edition).
