Faculty are paid at different tiers based on whether they are adopting, adapting, or creating OER.  Please see the compensation chart here

Do I need to create everything from scratch?

No, many already published OER may meet your instruction needs. We offer grants for faculty to simply adopt existing OER, to adapt and remix existing OER, as well as to create OER. You can find OER in your discipline by searching our OER libguide under “Find OER.”

Faculty use OER to replace traditional textbooks, as interactive homework tools with instant feedback, as a series of videos for students, as handbooks ore reference materials, as lab manuals, and more!

Students DO like OER! HACC students overwhelmingly report that they appreciate the use OER to eliminate textbook costs; over 90% of fall 2023 students said they very strongly or strongly appreciated the use of OER in their classes. Additionally, more than 70% said the OER was “very important or important” to their success in the course while fewer than 7% said it was “not important or not very important” to their success.

Once I have an OER project, will it be updated?

Absolutely! We recognize that materials may become out of date or need updating within a few years, and will pay faculty to update their OER after 2 years or more.
